Maintain Your Pool with These 5 Tips!

Throughout the summer, you of course want to be able to swim in clean and fresh water. To achieve this, regular maintenance is necessary. In this blog, we will give you various tips for maintaining your swimming pool.

1. How do I renew the water in my swimming pool?

The water in an outdoor pool should be changed  at least once a year . The best time to do this is during the annual spring cleaning. If you are patient, you can use the garden hose to fill the pool with clean water. However, this works best for smaller pools. For larger pools, consider hiring a water company to fill the pool. Draining your pool is quicker with a sump pump, also known as a submersible pump.

2. What is a filtration system?

Thanks to a good water flow, excessive use of chemicals can be avoided. This works well with the use of a filter pump. Different filter systems can be chosen to filter the wooden pool. Think for example of a sand filter pump or a cartridge filter pump. The size of the pump, however, depends on the size of the pool. The best operating time of the system is when the bathing water circulates about 1 to 1.5 times a day. Make sure that the filter pump is always free of leaves and dirt.

3. How do I keep my pool clean?

The main way to keep pool water clean is to use chlorine. This can be in the form of chlorine tablets or granules. Using a chlorine float , the chlorine is dosed evenly into the water. The chlorine content can be measured using test strips. Using a cover also helps to keep the water clean.  Tip: Always read the instructions for use carefully from the manufacturers of the chlorine products you are using before use.

4. How do I clean my swimming pool?

For a small pool, a net may be enough to clean the pool. On the other hand, for a large pool, it is advisable to clean the bottom with a pool vacuum. You can do this once a week or as you wish. The walls must also be maintained, which is preferably done using soft pool brushes so as not to damage the liner. In spring and winter, cleaning the pool is essential .

5. How to clean your pool when it turns green?

If the pool water is green, the walls and floor have been affected by algae. Green or brown water can also appear after adding disinfectants such as chlorine or oxygen. The best solution is:

  • Scrub the walls and bottom, using pool brushes.
  • Then vacuum up the loosened dirt using a pool vacuum.
  • Remember to remove any dirt that has accumulated in the filter.
  • Check the PH value and correct it if necessary to obtain a correct PH value between 7.0 and 7.5.
  • Add chlorine to the pool water and run the filter pump for 24 hours .
  • As a preventative measure, an anti-algae treatment purchased from a specialist store can also be useful. Before use, always carefully read the instructions for use from the manufacturers of the products you use for your pool.
